Student Film Organisations

I have been involved in the foundation of two student film organisations: The National Student Film Association and the International Student Film Organization.

The National Student Film Association (NSFA) is the biggest organisation in the UK to promote and widen exposure of student film making. It was founded on the 16th June 2009 by a group of film students from five different universities who felt that the time had come for a new organisation that would connect student film societies, festivals and film makers all around the UK.
The NSFA is split in two parts: film making and film distribution. We actively seek to help student film makers to make new films by promoting cooperation and collaboration at a national level and by working with student film events to improve the quality of talks and workshops they are able to offer. Secondly, we also try to generate new venues for the screening of student films, as well as supporting existing avenues and communicating with students film makers to encourage wider distribution of their work.

The International Student Film Organization (ISFO) was founded in November 2009 by two students from the University of Cambridge who wanted to connect student film makers from all over the world. It has also emerged as a reaction to the success of the National Student Film Association (NSFA UK) and the growing achievements of student films at festivals and in competitions. It has three aims:
- To connect student film makers from all over the world to each other and to the industry
- To provide a centralized organization to increase the quality and visibility of student film
- To encourage students to found their own national networks and film festival
I have been involved in the ISFO as its CEO since its foundation and still send out newsletters on a monthly basis. Currently, the ISFO has 700 people on its mailing list and ca 800 social network followers. It is also connected to 150 student film festivals from all over the world.
